The origin and evolution of perfume
The first bottle of perfume in history – Queen of Hungary
The Queen of Hungary’s Water, also known as Hungary Water, is the first bottle of alcohol-based perfume in history and the ancestor of modern perfumes.
As for who the Hungarian queen is, there are different opinions. Since the earliest formula appears to be more clearly recorded at the end of the 14th century, most of the current inferences are that the Queen Elizabeth of Poland (1305–1380) grew in the 14th century.
The maker of the Hungarian Queen's Water has not been traced for a long time, but there are two main theories:
1. Made by monks and given to Queen Elizabeth
2. Made by an Alchemist for Queen Elizabeth
(In fact, the alchemist may also be a monk at the same time)
The original recipe uses spirit brandy with fresh distilled rosemary.
From the 15th century to the end of the 19th century, Italians also began to use perfume widely. Strongly scented tallow incense appeared in the 16th century and soon spread to France, England and other European countries.
After Queen Elizabeth in the 14th century, it was commercialized and the term cologne appeared. Cologne is the English writing of Cologne Köln. The world's earliest cologne was made in Cologne in 1709 by an Italian, Giovanni Maria Farina (Johann Maria Farina), who named it "Cologne Water-Kölnisch Wasser" (Farina Eau de Cologne), because it was popular with the public. Favorite, other brands of cologne have also been launched. The better-known ones are the 4711 Cologne, named after its shop sign, which produced 4711 Kölnisch Wasser in 1803.
