美國權威雜誌《Whole Dog Journal》（簡稱WDJ）每年都會公布他們推薦的狗狗乾糧品牌讓毛爸媽們參考。由於WDJ並不接受任何廠商的廣告或贊助，也因此他們每年公布的榜單極具公正性及信賴度。

WDJ的評選標準，包括穀類和蔬果比例均衡，不含糖、人工色素、防腐劑、香料以及加工後的肉品，拒絕標識不清的脂肪或蛋白質成份，且須含有豐富動物性蛋白質等等。

很多廠商都會添加許多「肉粉」在飼料中，製作成本相對於原肉塊絕對低廉許多，但肉粉有可能包含許多你所不知道的動物內臟、不要的部位，其實吃下來對毛孩來說是一種負擔也容易引發過敏，所以挑選上，WDJ評選飼料的第一個先決條件就是，必須使用原肉！但是便宜的WDJ飼料，也要看原肉比例，不見得所有的WDJ飼料都是全用原肉製作的。

不過現在也很常聽到大家在推廣「無穀飼料」，其實跟人類在吃的「有機食品」有種類似的概念。所謂無穀，簡單說就是，飼料中不含稻米、小麥、大麥、玉米之類的穀物，狗狗是肉食性動物，腸胃基本上沒有可以消化澱粉的酵素，食用太多穀類飼料會對狗狗的身體造成負擔呦～而也有許多人表示，食用無穀的飼料比較不容易造成狗狗過敏（紅腫、搔癢）。

However, cheap WDJ feed also have low ratio of raw meat. Not all WDJ feed is made of raw meat.

But nowadays it is also common to hear people promoting "grain-free feed," which is actually a concept similar to the "organic food" that humans eat. The so-called grain-free, simply put, the feed does not contain grains such as rice, wheat, barley, corn, etc. Dogs are carnivorous animals, and the stomach and intestines basically have no enzymes that can digest starch. Eating too much grain feed will cause dogs allergies~ and many people say that eating grain-free feed is less likely to cause allergies (redness, itching).
